Starting an open source effort to bring biomedical data and tools together

Motivation from the community

A week ago I posted an blog post about my idea of creating Open Source organization that would have an goal to bring biomedical data and tools together to a single place. The original post can be read found here: https://inspiratron.org/blog/2015/12/12/open-source-effort-to-bring-all-open-biomedical-data-together/.

Since I posted it, quite large number of people contacted me, either by email or by social media, telling me that that would like to help. This quite motivated me and I believe validated this idea, so I decided to kick start it.

Community

In order to facilitate and coordinate the efforts of the community towards our goal of integrating, indexing and make data and tools accessible from the single source, I have created an

New version of OWASP Seraphimdroid (v2.0) is published

Dear users and security aware people, we have a great announcement. The new version of OWASP Seraphimdroid is published with some very interesting breakthrough features. If you liked OWASP Seraphimdroid before, now you will probably love it. We have improved machine learning aided permission scanner, new settings scanner, improved SMS interceptor, improved application locker, and some more. OWASP organized OWASP Code Summer Sprint, where OWASP Seraphimdroid participated as one of the project. Student that was proposed some and was selected to develop improvements on OWASP Seraphimdroid was Kartik Kohli. I had opportunity to mentor him as OWASP Seraphimdroid project leader. So let’s start explaining the major improvements.

If you are not aware or do not know what features

GreatUniHack – impressions from hackathon

This weekend (17th-19th April 2015.) I was participating GreatUniHack, so I would like to share here some impressions and experiences. GreatUniHack is a 36 hour hackathon organised by University of Manchester students and supported by Major League Hacking – an planetary organisation that supports hackathons around the World. It was held in Old Grenada Studios, the place where I was told Coronation street was filmed and some other popular BBC series.

It was supposed to start at 6PM on Friday 17th April. After a bit of struggling with meeting one of our team member, we managed to arrive at the place at 6:10. We found a table, took couple of photos. In my team was Michele, who is

OWASP Seraphimdroid android security published

Follow my blog with Bloglovin
Today I have to make one very important announcement. The first version of OWASP Serpahimdroid has been officially published. It is now publicly available in Google play store (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.owasp.seraphimdroid). I would like to tell a bit of the background of this project and describe some main features here.

It has been about a year ago when I started this project. I had an idea about building quite simple android security application that would not rely on some large database or some malware labs, but rather protect users trough a set of heuristics that will at the first place prevent them from loosing a money trough detecting if some malicious application is trying

xgoogle python library upgrade for google image search

Couple of days ago I realized that I need some library that will allow me search google and especially face images. I was previously working a bit with the Google API, however Google offers only 100 requests per day and there are some other limitations. It is very good API if you pay and want to commercialize the thing you have done and don’t mind some restrictions. However, if you try to search Google, download HTML and parse it trough python, it will return that the request is forbidden. So I looked for the solution and found out a very good python library, made couple of years ago by Peteris Krumins called xgoogle. It supports normal Google search and

First WordPress Meetup in Serbia

On April 19th, 2013 first WordPress meetup took place in Serbia. It was held in Prelovac media (company behind ManageWP) offices in New Belgrade. The event was initiated and organized by people with long WordPress background, and I must say that Serbia have them a lot (ManageWP, ThemeKingdom etc).

Since this is my first post about some open source community in Serbia, I must say that as OWASP Serbia local chapter leader and one of board members of NGO that will to be umbrella organization for all (or majority) FLOSS (Free/Libre Open Source Software) communities in Serbia, I should folow this a bit more. So here is my promise that in future I will more care about our FLOSS comunities.

Revolution OS – Story about Open Source

I know that recently I recomanded few movies, and I should write here something smart, but here goes another recomandation to movie called Revolution OS. I have to admit that I heard about the movie in one news article where it was mentioned as the oldest currently active torrent on Pirate Bay. So I had to check it.

It is a documentary about Free Software, Open Source movements, Linux and other surrounding projects. People starting this movements and project explaining why and how they started, what was the mothives and what is the philosophy around it. So surly if you don’t know much about this movements, it is defenetly good source. If you have reasoning how people can live writing
